South African Airways (SAA) on Wednesday reinstated flights to Blantyre, Malawi.
The flights were reinstated following urgent runway repairs and maintenance to Blantyre’s airport. The airline temporarily suspended flights to the area last Wednesday.
“SAA will be resuming three flights per week, of which one is operated on a supplementary basis, between Johannesburg and Blantyre from today [Wednesday], as per the normal schedule,†said SAA.
Airport strikes
Meanwhile, the SAA flight to Germany is expected to depart to Munich on Thursday as per the normal schedule following the announcement of a pending ground handler strike affecting Frankfurt and Munich.
“The airline wishes to further advise customers that although SA260 departing tonight [Wednesday] 8:30pm to Frankfurt, and SA264 departing 9:20pm to Munich will depart as per the normal schedule, customers will be able to disembark on arrival, but the baggage and cargo on these flights are expected to be offloaded as from 2:30pm and subsequently delivered to customers,†said the airline.
Customers with onward connections from Frankfurt and Munich may be affected due to the non-availability of aircraft positioning during the strike period. They will be rebooked, or should they wish to do so, find other ways of transport such as by train, or car.
With regard to onward connections, passengers are advised to contact the operating carrier during the day to check flight availability while customers without Schengen visas will have to remain in the transit area.
Customers can visit SAA’s website for more information on: http://www.flysaa.com and click (at the top of the page) on the travel advisory: “Strikes at Frankfurt and Munich airportsâ€. - SAnews.gov.za

Mbombela - Operations in the Kruger National Park are back to normal following floods which caused havoc in the park for the first two weeks of March.
South African National Parks (SANParks) spokesman Reynold Thakhuli on Tuesday said that all facilities which had been closed, excluding the S64 road in the north and the Wolhuter and Boesman Trails camp in the south, were now operational.
“All the bush camps, walking trails, picnic spots and gravel roads are deemed safe enough to be used by our clients. We are happy to be able to welcome them back,†said Thakhuli.
The reopened bush camps are Talamati, Biyamiti, Sirheni, Shimuwini, Balule and Bateleur, while the trails camps are Olifants and Nyalalaland.
Areas in the south of the Kruger received as much as 300mm of rain during the first 10 days of March, resulting in overflowing rivers which forced the closure of bridges, camps and roads.
“All clients who had cancellations need to get in contact with the SANParks reservations department on reservations@sanparks.org or 012 428 9111,†said Thakuli.
Flooding in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gauteng, North West and KwaZulu-Natal caused the deaths of 32 people, and displaced around 3 000 more. - SAnews.gov.za

Enjoy a luxury escape at The Falcondale Hotel, deep in the heart of the unspoilt Welsh countryside.
The hotel, and its 14-acres of pleasure gardens, is located just outside the university town of Lampeter and is within a stone’s throw of Cardigan Bay’s spectacularly beautiful beaches and the wild uplands of the Cambrian mountains.
The Italianate mansion has been in the hands of Chris and Lisa Hutton since 2000, and offers 18 individually designed bedrooms, many of which have stunning views over the grounds and the surrounding countryside.
A fantastic Easter break kicks off with a delicious afternoon tea in the sitting room or on the terrace – featuring traditional Easter delights such as Simnel cake and Easter bunny shaped Welsh cakes.
Every evening, meals are lovingly prepared by chef, Michael Green, whose creative flair, and clever use of the finest local ingredients, has helped The Falcondale restaurant secure 2AA rosettes for seven consecutive years.
A full Welsh breakfast sets guests up for a day’s exploring in the local landscape.
A visit to Caehir Gardens, as seen on BBC’s Gardeners World and Channel 4’s Garden Party, perhaps, or a trip back in time at the fascinating National Trust property, Llanaerchaeron.
Walkers can get away from the crowds in the unspoilt Cambrian Mountains, or take a trip to the sea and and step out along the magnificent coastal path, keeping an eye open for Cardigan Bay’s famed porpoises, dolphins and seals.
Well-behaved pets are welcome at The Falcondale, so the family dog can benefit from acres of glorious countryside to romp in during daily walkies.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our guests for Easter, and providing them with a well--deserved break in fabulous surroundings,†says Lisa Hutton.
“We want guests to feel at home here, so the ambience we have created is relaxed and friendly, but the service we provide is always attentive and professional. Our chef creates outstanding food, and we know that this is one of the reasons why our guests come back to us time after time.â€
*A three-night Easter break at The Falcondale costs £280 per person and includes a full Welsh breakfast every morning, a cream tea on either Sunday or Monday, as preferred, a gourmet dinner on two of the evenings of your stay, and a free OS map to help you explore the delights of the area.
Bring your dog at no extra charge.
