With over 40 musicians and bands, without including all the artists who play in fringe concerts, the Jazz a Vienne Festival is well known amongst specialists and critics. This year's guests include Hugh Laurie, Mélodie Gardot, Manu di Bango, Bobby McFerrin, and stringed instruments will be in pride of place for the 2012 edition.
The festival welcomes all ages of musician with concerts from the Groove Gang - aged between 14 and 15, and students from the Flexible Hours Music College (CHAM) - to 72 year old Eddy Louiss, award-winning organist.
The evening of Monday 9th July will be dedicated to Blues with performances from Keb'Mo' and his suave, smooth voice singing out his rough, rural Delta Blues, and Magic slim with his black Stetson - a living legend in Chicago Blues. Slim's career dates back to the mid-50s, but it wasn't until 1966 that he recorded his first album. He has travelled the Atlantic to bring his rustic style and rugged voice to the stage in Vienne.
Whether you are a jazz expert or simply a music-lover, a sunset seen form the walls of the town's Gallo-Roman amphitheatre is a unique experience no matter how great your knowledge of music.

Pretoria - Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk on Tuesday announced the appointment of the new Awards Committee of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).
The committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation and management of the TGCSA's grading system, South Africa's only officially recognised system for the star grading of accommodation establishments.
The new committee is chaired by Graham Wood, Managing Director of gaming, hotel and entertainment group, Tsogo Sun. The department said Wood, a chartered accountant, has 15 years' experience in the hospitality industry and is joined on the new committee by 11 highly experienced individuals, who bring with them an enormous wealth of knowledge of the tourism industry in South Africa.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the previous Awards Committee, under the leadership of Peter Bacon, for their hard work and commitment to quality assurance in South Africa," Van Schalkwyk said.
He said through their hard work and commitment, South Africa had a credible, globally benchmarked system of quality assurance for accommodation in the country.
The three-year term of the new Awards Committee ends in May 2015. - BuaNews
